Bacteriostatic Water vs Sterile Water for Peptides
Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is the right choice for most peptide reconstitution. It contains a small amount of benzyl alcohol that slows bacterial growth, so a single vial stays safe across multiple draws over several weeks. If you only plan one injection from a vial, plain sterile water works fine, but it offers no protection once the stopper is punctured.
What is bacteriostatic water?
BAC water is sterile water with benzyl alcohol added, typically at 0.9% concentration. The benzyl alcohol acts as a preservative. It does not kill bacteria outright. It inhibits their ability to multiply, which keeps the solution safer for repeated use.
